Cinderford Town are delighted to announce the appointment of Matthew Driscoll as the Club’s new manager.
Matthew joins the Club from Welsh side Aberbargoed Buds, where he built a double winning side, clinching the league and cup double last season. He was also previously manager at Aberdare Town as well as involved at Afan Lido, AFC Porth and Merthyr Town Academy.
Matt also has plenty of playing experience, having played Southern Premier League football with both Merthyr Town and Clevedon Town, as well as representing the likes of Afan Lido, Aberdare Town and Goytre United.
Matt was delighted to be confirmed as the new Cinderford Town manager, saying:
“I’m really excited and privileged to be joining such a great and historic club.  During my previous visits to Cinderford, I knew we were in for a tough night, and I want to bring that back, to have teams fear coming to the ground, but to be a footballing team in the process.
The attraction of joining the English pyramid again, but now as a manager is something I’ve always wanted to do.  Being back at the club just reminded me how it’s a proper football club – I just got the feeling this could be something special like years previously.
It’s going to be a small rebuild, but with the players I’ve already spoken to, I am very confident we will have a very good season.”
As a club, we were overwhelmed with the number of applications we received for the job, with over 30 excellent candidates throwing their hat in to the ring, but after speaking to Matt and his plans for the club, the players he was looking to target and his enthusiasm for the role, the decision was made easy.
Chairman Nick Simonds had the following to say on Matt’s appointment:
“The committee and I are delighted to welcome Matt to Cinderford Town as the new manager. We feel that the positive attitude towards our football club from Matt and his desire to be successful and build something special was evident from our first meeting. We can’t wait to get started.”
Our pre-season will kick off on July 1st as we welcome Goytre to the Causeway. This will be the first chance to have a look at our brand new side ahead of our upcoming Hellenic League campaign.
Further fixtures against Highworth Town, Kidlington and a Forest Select XI will follow, with full details being released shortly.
